A Tulsa area school will begin using high-tech equipment to keep a tighter lock on its classrooms.
All visitors to Jenks' Alternative School will now have to pass a Security Scan. News on 6 anchor Scott Thompson shows us how it works. Parents, salespeople, and even substitute teachers will be scanned. Administrators are looking for arrest warrants, sex offenses, and other criminal histories. They will get all that information instantly from the machine. It is a tabletop scanner is in the lobby of Jenks' Alternative School.
Visitors will have their photos taken, ID scanned, and badges printed.
Distributor Dean Burke with GAO Security says at the same time, the person's name and birth date is run through state and national sex offender registries, as well as a list of outstanding warrants. If the visitor trips a red flag, authorities know within seconds. "It will send an e-mail, a text message, an alpha page message to the law enforcement agencies, campus security, and an administrator and let them know. Not only does it send the message, but it can send a hi-res jpeg picture of that individual as well."
All this before the visitor ever leaves the lobby.
