OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma National Guard Colonel Pat Scully and his brother Robert are said to be doing well after surgery in which Pat Scully donated a kidney to Robert.

The surgery was Monday at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

Doctor Scott Samara performed the surgery and says both went well and the kidney is in place and functioning.

Pat Scully said earlier there was no question whether he would give his brother a kidney.

Robert Scully of Edmond was diagnosed three years ago with kidney disease.

Their organ compatibility is ranked as the best possible for two people who aren't identical twins and the brother-to-brother transplant means Robert won't have to wait for a transplant.

The National Kidney Foundation says there were about 16,000 kidney transplants in 2004 while more than 63,000 people were on waiting lists for a transplant as of August 2005.
