OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ State narcotics agents are using a new electronic system to track sales of pseudoephedrine which is a key ingredient used to make methamphetamine.

State Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control spokesman Mark Woodward says the system is an electronic logbook that immediately tracks each purchase of pseudoephedrine.

He says the logbooks started Sunday and allows pharmacists and agents to tell if someone is going from pharmacy to pharmacy to buy cold medicines containing pseudoephedrine.

State lawmakers passed a law in 2004 to require pseudoephedrine tablets be kept behind pharmacy counters and required customers to sign a log book in the store.

Woodward says meth labs are down by more than 90 percent since the 2004 law went into effect.
