DENVER (AP) _ Los Angeles right-hander Brad Penny left the Dodgers' game against Colorado last night after one inning because of stiffness in his lower back.
The Dodgers say the Broken Arrow native is day-to-day.
Penny, who has struggled since the All-Star break, allowed four hits, including a three-run home run to Matt Holliday, as the Rockies batted around in the first inning.
Penny was lifted for a pinch hitter in the top of the second, right after rookie James Loney's grand slam off Byung-Hyun Kim gave Los Angeles a four-to-three lead.
The Dodgers started the day one game ahead of Philadelphia in the National League wild-card race and one game behind San Diego in the National League West.
