OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Unemployment in Oklahoma rose in August to four percent, an increase of 2-10th of 1 percent over July.
The Oklahoma Employment Security Commission says the increase was fueled by significant employment declines in motor vehicle manufacturing following the closure of the General Motors' Oklahoma City Assembly Plant earlier this year.
But Oklahoma's unemployment rate remained below the national rate of 4.6 percent and was lower than all but one state in the region.
The Oklahoma City unemployment rate was 3.8 percent, a gain of 1-10th of 1 percent for the month. Tulsa's 3.8 percent rate was 2-10ths of a percent higher than in July. Lawton also saw a 2-10ths gain, as its unemployment rate rose to 4.5 percent.
