OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A study planned by state lawmakers will look at ways to improve the state's employment process for the disabled.

The study by the state House Health and Human Services Committee will focus on preventing employment discrimination.

The committee's chairman, Representative Kris Steele, asked for the study after receiving numerous complaints.

Steele says that if a disabled applicant meets a job's qualifications, they're not placed on the official state list of job candidates that is circulated among different agencies like non-disabled people.

Instead, disabled applicants must send a letter identifying them as "severely disabled" along with a resume to every agency to which they apply.
