TU students have a new way to cruise campus this school year.

News on 6 anchor Terry Hood explains how campus construction has students running on pedal power. Just step onto campus and you can't miss them. There are bright yellow bicycles outside every academic, athletic, and residential building.

The University of Tulsa bought 100 bikes to help with cut campus congestion. With so much construction in the works, parking is at a premium. So they checked out bikes to get kids from their dorms to class.

Garret Maier says it's cut his time trekking across campus in half. He has bike number 4, but he says getting one wasn't easy. "Me and my friends, we got really excited about it. I had one friend who was worried there was going to be a huge line, and he woke us up at seven o'clock in the morning to wait."

TU relations director David Hamby: "there was a line starting about three hours before the offices opened, and even before they opened they had gotten rid of their allotment of bicycles to interested students."

Since the school ran out of bikes so quickly, they've ordered 130 more. They already have 80 names on waiting lists.
