OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Very different views are being offered on the effects illegal immigrants have on the Oklahoma economy and the state's public services.

Comments at a public hearing Wednesday conducted by state Labor Commissioner Brenda Reneau range from illegal immigrants having little impact on taxpayers to those who say they hold down wages and create a security risk.

State AFL-CIO President Jimmy Curry says illegal immigration is a federal issue and that there's very little the state can do to solve the problem.

Reneau calls the hearing necessary because she says the federal government has failed to solve immigration problems.
