People risked their lives Monday evening to pull a survivor out of a burning car.
News on 6 reporter Emory Bryan says a traffic accident shortly before 10 PM Monday on US Highway 412 west of Sand Springs, killed 6 people.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says an eastbound car crossed the median and hit another car head on, then another car crashed into the wreckage. Two people in one car and four in another died, but two people survived.
A Tulsa man joined others as they attempted a rescue as the flames were building.
Even after the fires were out, it was a terrible scene. Three cars wrecked and caught fire. All three vehicles had people pinned. That's what it looked like when Larry Addison, his brother and father drove up on the scene, where people were already trying to help. Larry Addison: "people out on the side of the road trying to flag someone down, they knew the car was starting to catch fire and there was a man still alive in there."
The accident left six people dead and two seriously hurt. In one car, the driver was dead and a passenger was already out - but a jammed door had pinned a man inside. The car was on fire. "I ran over to the car that was starting to catch fire and there was 4 or 5 guys trying to yank the door out to get the guy out who was pinned and we were all pulling in unison trying to get the door open."
They used another vehicle and a rope to try to open the jammed door. "I tied the rope to the window of the door frame and he took off and snatched it and tried to yank the door off. It pulled the door, it didn't pull it off, but it pulled it enough to open the door so they could get the guy out." They got the man out alive just as help arrived to put the fire out.
Even though he's happy he was able to help - Addison says it was so horrible he'll never forget it.
OHP troopers say two people in the eastbound car were killed. They were identified as 47 year old Thomas Kirby Jr. and 38 year old Lisa Adams, both from Sand Springs. Another passenger in the car, 46 year old Michael Dobson of Sand Springs is listed in critical condition at a Tulsa hospital.
In the westbound car, four people, all from Enid died. They are identified as 20 year old Isaac King, 18 year old Stephen Dillion, 19 year old Sarah Foster and 20 year old Aaron Davis.
The driver of the third car, 46 year old Dorothy Scarbrough of Stillwater was treated and released from a Tulsa hospital.
