TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ Ross Wilson passed for two touchdowns and Zack Lathem had two touchdown runs as Hoover, Alabama, beat Tulsa Union 34-7 in a game between two of the nation's top high school football teams.
The Redskins kept the Buccaneers off the scoreboard for more than 16 minutes, but Hoover led 17-0 at intermission last night.
On the third play of the second half, Andre Shields gained 75 yards before being tackled at the Union 7-yard line. Three plays later, Lathem scored for the Buccaneers from the 1.
Later in the third quarter, Charlie Zorn caught a 1-yard TD pass from Wilson and Juan Siles booted a 27-yard field goal for a 34-0 advantage.
Harold Cox's 3-yard run with 6:43 left kept the game from being a shutout.
Hoover is ranked as the Number One high school team in the country and has won the last four Class 6-A state titles in Alabama.
Tulsa Union has won the last two Class 6-A state titles and is presently ranked first in The Associated Press Oklahoma high school football poll.
