An old scam has a new twist. It's one that could not only take your money, but land you in jail.
Several Tulsans have received letters saying they've won the lottery. The new part is, those letters come with cashier's checks. The winner is to deposit the check, wire half the money to pay the taxes, and then wait for the winnings. It is all a lie, and the check is fake.
Rick Brinkley with the Better Business Bureau: "The sad part about this is people believe that when they receive the check in the mail, it's good and they get so excited, their common sense goes out the window."
No matter how official the letter sounds or how real the check looks, shred them.
If you deposit the check, you are the one who could be arrested for passing a bad check.
