OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A new report says Oklahoma is the 13th most obese state in the nation.
The report by Trust for America's Health says 25.4 percent of Oklahoma adults are obese. It also says the state is eleventh highest for adult diabetes and eighth highest for hypertension -- or high blood pressure.
The report makes several recommendations to reduce obesity including government programs and increasing access to healthy food in low-income areas.
It also suggests better physical fitness programs in schools, employer-sponsored programs to offer workers times and places to work out and more sidewalks, parks and bike paths to encourage physical activity.
The least obese state in the study is Colorado where 16.9 percent are considered obese while Mississippi is at the top of the list with an estimated 29.5 percent of obese adults.
