OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A small fire at an Oklahoma City elementary school prompts the evacuation of nearly 300 students and faculty.

Students at Shidler Elementary School on the city's southside were evacuated when the fire was discovered Wednesday afternoon.

Fire Major Brian Stanaland says no injuries were reported and the fire is completely out. Stanland says the fire appears to have started from a discarded cigarette in a trash can inside a janitor's closet of the school's boiler room.

He says the fire caused about $500 in damage. He also credited the school with a quick and orderly evacuation of students.
