OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Senate President Pro Tem Mike Morgan says his plan to suspend gas tax collections is picking up momentum.
Morgan wants Governor Brad Henry to bring lawmakers into a special session to pass a three-month moratorium on fuel tax collections in Oklahoma. Gas prices in the state have climbed past $3 per gallon.
Morgan says Georgia's governor, Sonny Perdue, plans to suspend gas tax collections this month to relieve some of the financial burden felt by Georgians.
Morgan says Oklahomans also need relief from the high price of gasoline.
Henry has said he'll consider the plan but wants to make sure it's legal. House Speaker Todd Hiett says he supports easing Oklahomans' financial burden, but hasn't made a commitment.
