OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Only a small percentage of Oklahoma's high school class of 2005 took the SAT, but the group scored well on the standardized college entrance exam.
An estimated 7 percent of 2005 high school graduates in the state took the test. Most of the graduates instead opted for the ACT test.
Those Oklahoma students who took the SAT averaged 570 on the verbal portion, one point higher than last year, and 563 on the math section, three points lower than last year.
This compares to a national average of 508 on the verbal 520 on the math. Each section has a possible 800 points.
Oklahoma's 2005 seniors averaged 20.4 on the ACT test, compared to a national average of 20.9. ACT scores range from 1 to 36.
