Investigators say it all started last week when Oklahoma City Police found the body of Bernard Dennehy behind a tire shop. Someone had apparently beaten him to death.
Oklahoma City Police began looking for the victim's grandson, Brian Dennehy. They received a tip that he was staying at an apartment complex in Tulsa. A Tulsa Police officer went to check out the tip at the Watorford apartments near 51st and Harvard where he found the suspect's car. At first, the vehicle appeared to be empty but when the officer passed the car, police say Dennehy sat up and opened fire.
Sergeant Kim Presley, Tulsa Police: "The suspect was inside, witnesses say that he turned around as the officer drove through the parking lot, pointed over his shoulder back at the officer and started firing at the officer."
Dennehy hit the officer's car and the officer got out of his car and returned fire. Dennehy died at the scene.
