SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) Authorities say a man acccused of robbing a Shawnee convenience store used a child-like toy to commit a grown-up crime.
Officers arrested 34-year-old Terry Ray Conway July 22nd.
Police Chief Mike Chitwood says the robber eluded police by crawling into the city's storm drainage system and abandoning his clothing and a toy gun. Chitwood says a police tracking dog lost the robber's scent about a block from Conway's home.
Chitwood said officer Bob Stuart and Detective Al Gunter connected Conway to the robbery after being tipped that a man with his first name might have been responsible for the crime.
Conway apparently is wanted for a parole violation for an armed robbery conviction, and has three other previous armed robbery convictions.
