NORMAN, Okla. (AP) _ Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops says he thinks Jason White has a future in coaching if he wants to pursue it.
Stoops found out after the Sooners' morning practice today that the former Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback planned to retire from football.
Stoops says he understands that the extra work required in the NFL could be bothersome for White's two surgically repaired knees.
But the Oklahoma coach says White still had a sensational college career. He says he expects White to be successful in whatever he does.
White was part of Stoops' first recruiting class and eventually led the Sooners to back-to-back BCS title games. The Tuttle native holds several school records, including passing yards and touchdowns in a career.
