OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) New figures from the US Census Bureau show Oklahoma's Hispanic population is the state's fastest growing minority group.
Population estimates for 2004 that were released today show the state's Hispanic population grew another 5% from 2003 to 2004 to total more than 223,000. Asians were the second fastest-growing ethnic group in Oklahoma with a 3% increase over the same period.
Whites, blacks and American Indians all had growth rates of less than 1%.
American Indians remain Oklahoma's largest minority group at 8.1%. Blacks are next at 7.7%, followed by Hispanics at 4.7%.
