The Tulsa School Board has voted to stick by its decision to swap the elementary school start time with middle and high schools.

The decision, Thursday evening, comes despite an outcry from some Tulsa parents. Hundreds of people signed a petition to stop the change in schedules.

The board was given the option of postponing the change in start times until next school year, but they voted four to three to go ahead with the plan.

Tulsa parent Kaye Alley: "I'm just real upset. It was obviously a majority but some were so stubborn that they weren't going to go against their original vote. All we wanted was a compromise, just wait until next year."

Tulsa School board member Bobbie Gray: “but for me to back down just personally with my own vote would be against every bit of what the school board would try to build because no one would believe that we would stand behind a vote."

Now, Tulsa elementary school students will report to class at 8 in the morning. And the first bell will ring for middle and high school students at 8:45 AM.
