OU student pleads no contest to alcohol charge

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- The first University of Oklahoma student charged after the alcohol-related death of another student last fall is pleading no contest to a felony charge of providing alcohol to a minor.

OU junior Cody Barrington is being given three-years probation and must perform 100 hours of community service.

Barrington was charged last October after the death of freshman Blake Hammontree, but he was NOT accused of giving alcohol to Hammontree.

Hammontree's body was found in the Sigma Chi fraternity the day after a pledge party last September. An autopsy found his blood-alcohol content was .42, more than five times the amount considered legally drunk.

Sigma Chi member Raymond Davis was also charged with felony providing alcohol to a minor, but it was reduced to a misdemeanor and he was given one-year probation and a $50 fine.

Felony charges against three other Sigma Chi members are pending.
