McALESTER, Okla. (AP) A man already facing a death sentence for a murder conviction has received another 50 years in prison on five felony drug convictions.
Ricky Ray Malone was sentenced on Friday on the convictions from Stephens County. The ten-minute hearing was held on death row at Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester.
Malone pleaded guilty to the drug charges last year in Lawton.
The former Duncan firefighter was sentenced to die by lethal injection on a murder conviction in the death of Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Nikky Green.
Stephens County Associate District Attorney Jerry Herberger says he wanted to complete sentencing on the drug convictions in case Malone's death sentence is overturned on appeal.
A life sentence would be 45 years. Malone is 29.
