LANGSTON, Okla. (AP) -- A new era begins at Langston University.
New Langston President JoAnn Haysbert starts work with a mission to honor the school's legacy as a historically black college.
Haysbert says she wants to strengthen technology and academics on campus and make Langston known as an institution that provides quality education to all.
Haysbert succeeds Ernest Holloway, who led the campus for 25 years.
Haysbert says she'll spend her first days meeting faculty, staff and students, along with alumni and university supporters. She says she wants to create a family atmosphere at Langston and be readily accessible.
Haysbert hopes to bring economic development to the rural area. She previously was provost of Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia.
