DURANT, Okla. (AP) _ The pilot of a single-engine aircraft was killed Saturday while performing an aerobatics maneuver over Lake Texoma in southern Oklahoma.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman John Clabes said the pilot's body was pulled from the lake by witnesses in boats after his aircraft lost power and fell into the water at 3:09 PM.
Clabes says the crash, which occurred near a marina, was videotaped by several people in and around the lake.
Clabes says the pilot did what's known as a hammerhead stall and nosed over. The pilot had performed one maneuver successfully but the engine sputtered on the second attempt and he did not recover.
The aircraft, which may have been home made, was registered to David W. Estes of Sherman, Texas.
