McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- The head of McAlester's Utilities and Maintenance Department is hospitalized in Tulsa with a broken leg after a trench collapsed on him.

City officials say Jerry Hill was injured Thursday when the trench collapsed and buried him waist deep while workers were installing a sewer line in the western part of the city.

Two other city employees were also in the ditch as it began to collapse, but were able to escape.

Workers used their hands and shovels to dig Hill out of the ditch.
