Convicted murderer caught breaking into a Tulsa school

A convicted murderer out on probation is arrested for breaking into Tulsa's Memorial High School.

18-year-old Mitchell Roberts[pictured with the white cap] and another suspect were arrested around 2 AM Thursday. A Tulsa Police canine unit found Roberts hiding in a second floor closet. He was treated for dog bites and taken to jail.

Mitchell Roberts was just 15-years-old when he pleaded guilty to first degree murder charges in the death of 71-year-old Donald Green Sr. On Christmas Eve 2001, Green was choked and beaten at his home, then stuffed into the trunk of his car. Prosecutors say Roberts was along for the ride as Green's body was driven to Kentucky and dumped in an icy river.

Green's family fought Roberts' early release and say they expected him to return to a life of crime. Donald Green Junior: "Someone who would beat an old man up, put him in the trunk and listen to him all the way to Kentucky, he's capable of doing anything."

Roberts now faces charges for burglary.

The Memorial High School incident is the latest in a rash of Tulsa school break-ins. Police don't believe any of them are related, but there have been four other school break-ins since the beginning of the year in Tulsa.

In March two schools were hit. A 16-year old boy was arrested inside of Sandburg Elementary School. Tulsa Police say he broke a window to get inside.

A few weeks later, two students were caught by police. Officers say they were breaking into Rogers High School.

This month, a man was found inside Wilson Middle School after he tripped a burglar alarm. And three days later police arrested a man they say had broken into East Central High School.

Tulsa Police were called to each break-in and caught suspects before anything was stolen.
