Thunderstorms moved through eastern Oklahoma this past weekend leaving pockets of damage in their wake.
One of those damage areas was along Longtown Creek on Lake Eufaula. News on 6 reporter Rick Wells went to Lake Eufaula Monday to talk to residents and look at the damage.
Jerry and Wanda Sheppard retired to Lake Eufaula a few years ago. It's been a beautiful spot to enjoy the lake. Saturday they had all they could do to hold it together. They were on the deck when the storm blew in. Jerry Sheppard: "we thought it was gonna be another shower or rain storm. We got to the door and it took both of us to open it. We got inside, it came at us."
When it was over, they found trees blown down, their boat dock which was just about two years old had been lifted by the wind and flipped over and the roof of the deck where they had been sitting was flipped up on top of the house. Kreg Hunt the assistant fire chief for the Area 9 Fire Department was out on the lake when the storm hit. "There were a number of boat docks on the way in a number of boats sinking due to the storm that did come through."
The ‘J’ dock on northwest end of Number 9 Marina off state Highway 9, was all but destroyed by Saturday’s nigh winds. Kreg Hunt says there were isolated pockets of damage in several areas around the lake, kept the department busy for several hours.
Despite all the damage to homes, boats and boat docks, there were no reports of serious injuries.
Residents in Warner spent the day cleaning up after weekend storms. High winds tore the roof off city hall and it landed on the Davis Antique Auction nearby. Six people were injured as the storms moved through Green Country.
And around Tulsa, the sound of chainsaws filled the air as people removed downed trees and large limbs. One person in Broken Arrow even lost their fence.
