TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- State Schools Superintendent Sandy Garrett named 12 teachers from across Oklahoma on Tuesday as finalists for Oklahoma Teacher of the Year.
She made the announcement at the superintendent's annual leadership conference at the Maxwell Convention Center in Tulsa.
Each year four regional selection committees made up of teachers, past winners and Parent-Teacher Association representatives choose the 12 finalists. The winner will be named in September at the Oklahoma State Fair in Oklahoma City.

The finalists are:
James Calaway, who teaches biology and environmental-physical science at MacArthur High School in Lawton.
Terri Clark, a teacher at Pleasant Grove Public School in Shawnee. She has taught fourth grade the past seven years.
Jeni Dutton who teaches English and language arts to eighth graders at Central Junior High in Moore.
Mary Hamilton, an Alva Middle School teacher who has taught sixth, eighth and 10th through 12th graders history courses, computer courses and yearbook.
Robyn Hilger, band and orchestra teacher for sixth through eighth grades at Belle Isle Enterprise School in Oklahoma City.
Starla Ann Howard, teaches reading, literacy and language arts to first through third grades at Will Rogers Elementary in Shawnee.
Philippa Anne Kelly, teaches ninth through 12th grades world, U-S and Oklahoma history in Bixby.
Linda Lancaster, teaches seventh grade math, pre-advanced placement algebra and life skills at Byng Junior High.
Chuck Pack, teaches geometry, algebra and advanced placement statistics for grades nine through 12 at Tahlequah High School.
Jamie Scammahorn, a family and consumer sciences teacher at Kingfisher High School.
David Shouse junior, teaches math, social studies and language arts to sixth-grade students at Cherokee Elementary School in Muskogee.
Terry Vernell, a kindergarten teacher at Will Rogers Elementary in Stillwater.
