The city of Tulsa is getting plenty of feedback over the possible impact of a plan to widen I-44.
The state Department of Transportation wants to widen a portion of I-44 from Yale to the Arkansas River. The plan includes making 51st Street a one-way, service road. Some residents were concerned that making 51st Street one way would limit access to their neighborhood. So the city came up with a proposal to build a bridge over Joe Creek creating another way to get into the area.
Tulsa city planning manager Ken Hill: "We just wanted to have a public meeting with the neighborhood just to receive their input. Whether they liked it, or didn't like it. If they liked it, fine, if they didn't like it, that's fine too."
A recent public meeting over the bridge idea drew mostly negative reaction. Planners will take that feedback to the city council and mayor.
