State lawmakers disagree on law agency consolidation

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Two legislators with law enforcement backgrounds differ on the idea of combining the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation and the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs Control.

Representative Lucky Lamons, who was a Tulsa police officer for 22 years, says if the consolidation were to become state law, it could save taxpayers a million-dollars.

Lamons has filed a request for an interim study on consolidating the OSBI and the narcotics bureau.

Representative John Nance has spent more than 30 years as an investigator with the U.S. Treasury Department and the Oklahoma attorney general's office.

He says consolidation would bring a dangerous decrease in the number of officers, funding and resources made available to the bureau.
