OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The deadline is June 30th for students who just finished 10th grade to sign up for a program that could pay their college tuition.
The Oklahoma Higher Learning Access Program is for students whose families have a yearly income of $50,000 or less. Eligible students can sign up for the OHLAP program starting in the 8th grade.
To earn the scholarships students must pass a 17-unit curriculum with at least a 2.5 grade-point-average and have at least an overall grade-point of 2.5.
The students must also stay out of trouble and avoid drugs.
The scholarships are good for up to five years at any public college or university in Oklahoma and can be used for some tuition at accredited private colleges or certain courses at public technology centers.
An estimated 12,000 students will receive OHLAP scholarships this fall.
