VINITA, Okla. (AP) _ Authorities in Kansas want to delay next week's search for the remains of two missing Welch girls.

Craig County Sheriff Jimmie Sooter says the search of mines near Galena, Kansas, that was to start Monday is being delayed a few weeks. Sooter says the Kansas Bureau of Investigation wants to better coordinate the search.

Authorities will search four mining pits for the remains of Ashley Freeman and Lauria (LORI) Bible. The two girls were 16 when they disappeared in December 1999 after Freeman's parents were found shot to death in their burned out mobile home.

The search was scheduled after suspected serial killer Jeremy Jones of Miami (MY'-AM-uh) allegedly confessed to Sooter that he killed the Freeman's then took the two girls to Kansas, killed them and dumped the bodies in a mine.

Jones is jailed in Mobile, Alabama, and is charged with murders in Alabama, Georgia and Louisiana. He has not been charged in Oklahoma.
