OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) When she was 15 years old, Jennifer Berry's friend and high school classmate died in a drunk driving incident that left Berry with a commitment to prevent more tragedies.

Her friend's memory will be Berry's focus during the next year as she travels across the state meeting students and their parents in her new role as Miss Oklahoma 2005.

Berry is a 21-year-old senior at the University of Oklahoma majoring in elementary education. She was crowned Saturday night after a competition involving 43 young women from across the state that highlighted intelligence, talent and poise.

Berry says her platform for the next year is Building Intolerance to Drunk Driving. Berry's been involved in the Mothers Against Drunk Driving chapter in her hometown of Tulsa since she was 17.
