Authorities investigating the death of a 2 year old child in a Tulsa apartment

A man is in the Tulsa County jail in connection with the death of a 2-year old boy. The suspect is the boy's father.

6 in the Morning reporter Omar Villafranca says it all started Wednesday night when police say the child apparently spilled a pot of boiling water on himself.

Emergency crews weren't called to the west Tulsa apartment near 21st and Southwest Boulevard until Thursday afternoon. When they arrived, crews say they found the toddler lying on the floor with burns over 75-percent of his body. The boy was going into convulsions and vomiting. He later died at the hospital.

Tulsa Police believe there was some form of gross negligence. Tulsa Police Sgt Michael Brown: "There is a long time span from when the burns occurred to when the child died, so we're uncertain as to how much adult contact the child had at that point."

23-year old Carlis Ball was arrested Thursday night by police. He was on the scene when police arrived and obviously very emotional.

Tulsa Police also questioned other family members about what happened.

Three other children live in the apartment. It's not known if they are related to the 2-year old victim, but the Department of Human Services is evaluating them.
