STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- State jail inspector Don Garrison has served notice that he may request closure of the Payne County Jail by July 31 unless improvements are made in the overcrowded facility.
His notice was provided to the county jail study committee, which forwarded it to the Payne County commissioners on Tuesday.
The committee was informed Garrison had planned to notify the state attorney general to shut the jail by July 1. When he was informed of the committee's plans to study the jail problems, Garrison said an additional 30 days would be granted before he took action.
