The state of Oklahoma ranks as the worst in the nation for the percentage of people going hungry.

Tuesday was National Hunger Awareness Day. The Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma held a volunteer-a-thon Tuesday.

6 in the Morning anchor LeAnn Taylor, Meteorologist Dick Faurot and News on 6 anchor Craig Day got the chance to lend a helping hand, along with about 100 other volunteers.

Donated food was sorted and re-packed for distribution to 450 other locations to be handed out to people in need. Margaret Butler with Community Food Bank: "One out of five children in Oklahoma goes to bed hungry. We definitely want to solve that problem. No child should go to bed hungry."

The food bankâ€™s warehouse is currently located at 1150 North Iroquois Avenue in Tulsa.
