McALESTER, Okla. (AP) -- McAlester police are looking for the vandals who sprayed paint on the Pioneer Coal Miner Memorial statue at a city park.

Police say orange paint was sprayed on the memorial to miners and on the Wall of Memories that has inscriptions of the names of some 1,700 miners who died on the job.

City workers are using paint remover, brass brushes and water in an effort to remove the paint.
