OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A California man has pleaded guilty to charges that he used information from death certificates to open credit accounts and make purchases at Target and Home Depot.
Earnest Richardson, 61, most recently of Pasadena, admitted to making more than $1,000 in purchases in the names of four recently deceased people when he lived in Oklahoma in 2001, U.S. Attorney Robert McCampbell said Thursday. Richardson obtained the birth certificates from the state Health Department.
He faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and fines of up to $250,000 on each of four criminal counts.
