Tulsa Police detectives are questioning a suspect in a crime which terrified a 5-year old Tulsa girl, in her bedroom in the middle of the night. The break-in happened at the South Glenn apartments at 56th and Peoria.
News on 6 reporter Heather Lewin says Tulsa Police were first called around 2:30 AM Thursday, the caller said his 5-year old daughter woke him up to say a man came into her room.
Tulsa Police Sgt. Kim Presley: “We're trying to eliminate whether or not she has been assaulted in some manner one way or the other and we want to be sure we investigate it fully."
As detectives tried to piece together exactly what happened to the girl, officers swarmed the area, in search of a suspect. Their biggest lead came when a police dog led investigators from the girl's window twice to the same nearby apartment.
No one was home, but as Tulsa Police began gathering evidence, the suspect rode up on a bicycle and was arrested. He is 34-year old Forrest Eddy II, an ex-convict with a history of drug and burglary offenses. Eddy was arrested on an outstanding felony warrant, police then began questioning him about the break-in.
Police say the suspect reached in through the window and touched the girl on the head. They're not certain at this point whether he actually climbed into the apartment, but what has detectives concerned is he could have, because the window was unlocked.
It's a scenario familiar to many Tulsans, concerned about a serial rapist targeting area children, but detectives say Eddy does not match that suspect description. "The MO is similar so I can see why people might jump to the conclusion that this guy might be the serial rapist, but first off, we don't want to give anybody false hope that we've got the guy."
Tulsa Police can't yet say what the suspect might be charged with. If he just reached into the window it's considered a misdemeanor, if he actually climbed in, any crimes committed inside become a felony.
