The state Senate takes up what some call a crucial safety measure for Oklahoma.

A bill that would tack an extra 50 cent charge onto your cell phone bill for E911 service passed through the Oklahoma Senate Wednesday 48 to 0.

The next step would be for Tulsa County to vote on House bill 1751, but there's no word on when that would happen.

The money collected by the bill would pay for equipment needed to allow 911 operators to know your location when you call from a cell phone.
