LAWTON, Okla. (AP) -- A Comanche County jury is recommending the death penalty for a former firefighter convicted of killing an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper.

The jury deliberated for about two hours before deciding Ricky Ray Malone should die for the December 26th, 2003, shooting death of Trooper Nik Green while Green tried to arrest Malone for operating a suspected mobile methamphetamine lab.

Prosecutors said Malone fought with Green and was able to get Green's gun, then shot the trooper twice in the back of the head as he begged for his life.

Green's widow, mother and sister Wednesday asked the jury to sentence Malone to death.
