OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- A new report shows women fill 55 percent of all state government jobs in Oklahoma, but make up less than half of the work force among administrators.

The report from the state Office of Equal Opportunity and Workforce Diversity shows Oklahoma employs more than 18,000 women and less than 15,000 men.

But while women make up 55 percent of state government workers, 57 percent of administrators are men.

Deputy Director Hank Batty of the Office of Personnel Management says government officials are aware they need to do a better job of hiring female administrators.

The data from June 2004 also indicate that women fill 86.5 percent of the state's administrative support jobs. Men dominate the technician, protective services, skilled crafts and service maintenance categories.
