Would you stack up your husband against the likes of Jude Law, or Johnny Depp, or Brad Pitt? One Tulsa woman did and her husband, Dr. Todd Beasley, was picked as one of ten non-celebrities in People magazine's annual "Most Beautiful" issue.
But as News on 6 reporter Steve Berg explains, she says it's his inner feelings that matter most to her. Joli Beasley has a deep, dark secret. "Um, well, I'm embarrassed to say I'm addicted to People magazine." Awhile back, she saw they were taking nominations for local folks. "And I thought, well I think Todd's beautiful I'm going to nominate him." Lo and behold, out of hundreds of people, People picked Dr. Todd Beasley. Joli: "Look there's Todd." Todd: "I made it mom!"
Let's face it; it's pretty cool to have your picture in the same magazine as Brad Pitt's. "I did notice it was the smallest picture." But of course, he's gotten plenty of ribbing from his buddies. "I've received some very silly pages on my pager recently." Todd and Joli were the proverbial childhood sweethearts.
And Joli says it's what is in her husband's heart that matters most to her. For example, he does medical missions through his church. And she says family and kids have always come first, even during grueling medical school. Joli: "I never saw him study in medical school. It's not that he didn't study, he would tuck us in at night, and then he would start studying because he didn't want to take away any time from us."
Joli was born without her left arm. She felt the artificial arm was cumbersome, but was too self-conscious not to wear it, until a recent talk with Todd. Joli: "Just telling me he doesn't notice it, it's not anything he thinks about. He wants me to be comfortable and that's what gives me the confidence and the strength to not wear it.â€
But if he ever gets cocky, there's always his brother Brent's daughter. Todd: "He showed my little niece People magazine, most beautiful people and said hey there's your Uncle Todd and she said, what is he doing in there? (Laughs)â€
We asked Dr. Beasley what his family's reaction was to his pick as one of the Beautiful People. His mom said she knew it the whole time.
