New developments in a series of car shootings along the Creek Turnpike near Broken Arrow. Investigators say they are close to making an arrest.
News on 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright says OHP troopers are urging the suspects in last week's shootings to turn themselves in. That is because the FBI found five shell casings from the 22 caliber rifle in the same area where the shootings happened.
Four cars were hit by gunfire that night, one vehicle was hit twice. The shell casings have been sent to a lab to be tested for fingerprints. The News on 6 was taken to the scene Monday afternoon. Investigators believe the gunmen were standing on a hill off the Creek Turnpike, facing westbound traffic. They put the weapon between two posts to balance it and then fired at oncoming cars.
OHP trooper Pete Norwood: "This is the exact point where they shot. They were actually standing up on this hill, looking back into the traffic that's westbound. They were able to put the weapon between the posts and fire. That's why the shots were pinpoint."
Investigators say they have other evidence that will help them find the suspects, although they didn't tell us specifically what that evidence was, they did say the area is rough and someone could easily scrape themselves, leaving behind DNA. Witnesses told police they saw two young white men walking down the exit ramp that night.
Troopers have taken several calls and are following several leads and are confident they'll make an arrest in this case soon.
