The News on 6 has surveillance video from a Tulsa Wal-Mart that shows a couple stealing a purse from a shopping cart.
The News on 6 told you about this case last week when Wal-Mart refused to voluntarily give the tape to police. So, officers got a search warrant and got the video. Now, they hope you can help them identify the thieves.
News on 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright says the surveillance video shows a woman pushing a man in a wheelchair and while his face is clearly visible, her's is frequently turned away from the camera. The next shot shows them approach the shopping cart outside that has a purse sitting in it.
The purse's owner had accidentally left it there and drove off minutes earlier. Theft victim Catherine: "I drove all the way home and thought where is my purse, I always leave it in the front seat. I went right back to the bank cause I didn't know what to do, I was so upset and they called police."
Rather than turning the purse in, the video shows the woman pick it up and hand it to the man in the wheelchair and then they get into their red vehicle and leave. No one ever contacted Catherine to return her purse and she was prepared to do pay a reward. Now, detectives hope someone recognizes this couple so they can face the consequences of their finder's-keeper's attitude.
If you know who these people are, you can call Crimestoppers at 596-COPS. You don't have to give your name and if your tip helps police make an arrest, the Citizens Crime Commission will pay you a cash reward.
