WASHINGTON (AP) _ J.C. Penney Co. Inc. is recalling 228,818 one-piece infant outfits because decorative patches on them can come off and pose a choking hazard.

The company has received three reports of the puffy patches detaching from the Okie Dokie cotton bodysuits, though no injuries were reported, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The short-sleeved bodysuits, which snap at the bottom, came in multicolored striped patterns adorned on the front and side with small patches of lions, fish, police cars and other figures.

About one-fourth of the recalled outfits, made in China, are for newborns up to 9 months, the others for babies age 12-24 months.

J.C. Penney stores and its Web site sold them from October 2004 to February 2005 for about $6.

Children should stop wearing the suits, which can be returned to a J.C. Penney store for a refund. More information is available by calling the Plano, Texas-based company at 888-333-6063.
