HOMINY, Okla. (AP) _ Officials say two inmates required hospitalization and other inmates needed medical attention after a melee between two groups of prisoners.
Earlier reports had indicated one inmate was hospitalized and the brawl involved about 30 inmates. Department of Corrections spokesman Jerry Massie says it is now believed about 40 inmates participated. Both of the hospitalized inmates were in good condition.
The altercation is believed to have been between a group of American Indian, Hispanic and white inmates and a group of black inmates.
The melee came just a month after a race- and gang-related confrontation March 22 at a privately operated prison in Cushing left one inmate dead.
