PONCA CITY (AP) _ Alcohol may have played a role in an accident that killed two Ponca City men in Kay County.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 34-year-old Lee Roy Malburn and 32-year-old Grant Algernon died at the scene of the accident on U-S Highway 177 around 9:45 PM Saturday.
The patrol says Jeffrey Kevin Pappan was headed west on a county road when he failed to yield to a sport utility vehicle headed south on the highway. Pappan's car was hit on the passenger side, causing it to flip onto its top.
Trooper say Malburn was pinned for about 25 minutes and Algernon was in there for nearly 90 minutes before firefighters freed them.
The patrol believes Pappan's driving ability was impaired and troopers detected an odor of alcohol.
