A planned toll bridge over the Arkansas River at Yale doesn't have much support among the people who live nearby. About 50 concerned residents of South Tulsa and Bixby complained about it Thursday night at a public meeting.
A private company wants to build the bridge and charge a dollar for every car that crosses it. Residents worry it will make traffic worse for them while developers make money off the deal.
Bridge opponent Rachel Lowry: "Every night we listen to owls and watch the stars and we have some nice things here in South Tulsa and we don't want to lose that for some misplaced bridge.â€
The planned route was set by the city of Tulsa's master plan. City and county officials are backing the deal, which could result in a new bridge by 2007.
Residents promise to fight it.
