ENID, Okla. (AP) The new Garfield County Detention Facility probably won't open until June 3rd.
Sheriff Bill Winchester had wanted to unveil the new 198-bed jail a month earlier, but a leaky roof vent, an overheating generator and other minor repairs have been holding things back.
Winchester says the necessary repairs must be completed before the state fire marshal and a jail inspector from the state Department of Health can inspect the facility and issue a certificate of occupancy.
He says the repairs aren't expected to take long, but the fire marshal will be on vacation at the end of May so he likely won't be able to look at the new jail until early June.
The $7.34-million jail is being constructed with proceeds from a quarter-cent sales tax approved by county voters in November 2002.
